ok, let's do the math on this one. "ghetto karaoke" is being held at this spot on the corner of 109th and amsterdam (south columbia university territory) in a spot adjoining a smartly designed place that sells indian roti rolls until 3:00 am 7 days a week (where i happened to be getting some food just now).

i heard people sing three songs while i waited:
1) the norah jones song that says "come" like 100 times
2) "you give me fever"
3) and some song with the chorus "stand by your man" that sounded like, barbara streisand or something

...people were enthusiastic too...and the applause was as telling as the song selection -- sorry but you get some demographic data when when it's time for applause.

so...really, why ghetto?
